Georgios Panos
Lecturer in Business Economics and Finance
Georgios is a Lecturer in Business Economics and Finance at the Essex Business School. He holds a PhD from the University of Aberdeen and a MSc from the University of Warwick. He has served as a consultant to the World Bank's Finance and Private Sector Development group in multiple occasions, and has been affiliated with EU-funded projects. His research interests involve financial inclusion and access to finance and microfinance, financial literacy and behavioural finance, among other topics.

Worked on funded research projects on the challenges of commercializing the innovation of ‘serious games’ by computer games companies and the interdisciplinary collaboration in the design and development of computer games. For his PhD at the London School of Economics he studied the design and development of the Euroclear ICT-based platform for the cross-border settlement of securities transactions between the UK and Ireland, France, Belgium, and Holland. While at the LSE he was also a Research Student at the Centre for the Assessment of Risk and Regulation (CARR). His teaching at WBS is in the areas of IT as a Strategic Resource, Information Systems and Financial Markets, and Technological Innovation and Change

Dr Lazaros Panourgias
Lawyer
Dr Lazaros Panourgias LL B (Athens Law School), LL M (Georgetown University), MA (Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy), Ph D (King's College, London). Since 2006, Lazaros is senior legal counsel at the European Investment Fund (European Investment Bank Group) in Luxembourg, with responsibility for external investment fund vehicles and holding funds (previously, for new investment products). Lazaros is a Member of the Board of Managers of Anthea – Contemporary Art Investment Fund SICAV FIS. A member of the Bar in Athens (Greece) and New York (US), he has previously worked at Herbert Smith, London, and as legal adviser at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and at the Harvard Law School Program on International Financial Systems. He is an expert on financial regulation and international banking, including advising on investment funds and on structuring of financial entities. He is lecturing and publishing on the European and international financial architecture, and contributes to the debate on the current financial crisis (International banking supervisor, Bretton Woods II etc.). Lazaros is author of the book Banking Regulation and World Trade Law (Oxford: Hart Publishing, 2006); the book is in the libraries of leading financial institutions, financial regulators, law firms and universities in US, Europe and Asia. He is on the Editorial Advisory Board of the European Business Law Review.

Dr Juan Pablo Pardo-Guerra
Lecturer in Sociology
Juan Pablo Pardo-Guerra is Lecturer in Sociology at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He read physics at UNAM, Mexico, and holds an MSc and PhD in science and technology studies from the University of Edinburgh. His current research examines the dynamics of technology in financial markets, focusing on the evolution of information dissemination and automated trade execution systems between 1970 and 2010. His research, along with that of other colleagues at LSE and Edinburgh, informed the UK government’s policy on the future computer-based trading in financial markets. More broadly, his research engages with the linkages between markets, technologies, politics and expertise, re-evaluating the role and nature of markets in modern societies. He has published in several journals and across disciplines, including Economy & Society, Cultural Sociology, Journal of Cultural Economy, (sociology), Technology in Society (innovation studies) and Journal of Empirical Finance (financial economics).
